Jobs in Armenia for English speakers
posted:3 years agobyMarry JoJoin Graduates
Armenia's economy is growing due to its strong service sector, including tourism, healthcare, construction, and technology outsourcing services, among others that have contributed to its development into an upper-middle-income country. There are a number of jobs in Armenia that can be done from home by an English speaker. This blog post will cover the most common areas available to foreigners in Armenia, including teaching, translation and editing, writing, proofreading, and other online jobs.
To help people find employment, I have written this blog post that details the best places to find work and offers some helpful advice on how to get hired.
The Best Jobs for English Speakers in Armenia
Persons interested in working remotely from home have several options available to them, but Internet marketing and related fields seem to be the most commonly advertised. This is because many people online are already from English-speaking countries and don't feel they need language skills when hiring staff. With this said, there are several job openings for proofreading, editing, and translating as well, which can be done by native speakers who live abroad or non-native speakers with excellent command of the English language. Some examples where I have found work myself include:
Teaching Online Jobs
Many foreigners living in Armenia teach English or another foreign language via Skype or other means of online communication. This can be an easy job to do remotely but may need some initial investment in learning the language and purchasing required teaching materials.

Translation Job Resources
Translation jobs are available for Internet marketing, business, and many other fields; however, there is not much demand for translating into Armenian. As such, it may be wise to stick to working with English or another foreign language. This can be difficult as one needs to ensure they properly understand the meaning of their work before offering it for sale online. Fortunately, many translators offer free samples so that clients can check them out before hiring them. Related Jobs in Armenia
Writing Jobs/Freelance Work
When looking for writing jobs, you will need to look at local newspapers and magazines where your skills match what employers are looking for. Unfortunately, very little work is offered online, but there are often openings on classified ad sites like Gumtree, which use your native language. Unfortunately, this is not a reliable way to find jobs, and you may need to search at other places online such as Craigslist or similar websites.

Proofreading Jobs in Armenia
This is the same as writing jobs. However, there are no good resources for finding proofreading work online. As such, this may be something you will need to do locally within the Armenian community, which has many English speakers who often require this service. Unfortunately, there isn't much demand outside the Armenian community, and your income will reflect that.
Administrative Assistant Jobs
Many positions in Armenia are to work as administrative assistants for local companies. The pay is usually low, and they may ask that you work long hours; however, if you want to live in Armenia, these jobs are invaluable, especially when trying to gain experience and skills related to office management. Unfortunately, very little of this type of position is available online and may require a local person who knows the business well.
Software Engineers
There are many software engineering jobs available in Armenia, but few of these are advertised online. While you may find a client who wishes to hire someone online, I have yet to find this type of opening. As such, these would need to be opportunities gained via recommendations or other means which reach out to the expat community working directly with locals at the companies doing development work.

Customer Service Representatives
Although not strictly design or writing work, there is a great demand for customer service representatives based locally in Armenia or online. As such, this may be an excellent way to earn some extra money and learn new skills in the process without having to find a job exclusively in English. Many of these companies offer high starting-salaries but expect long hours with few benefits beyond pay.
Freelance Job Search Resources
Many freelancers find work online by joining a service such as oDesk, Elance, or Freelancer, which offers a wide range of jobs for different skill sets and experience levels. Unfortunately, these positions are rarely available in Armenian at present, and it is unlikely that you will get any interesting offers from these companies unless you already have an established profile with plenty of feedback from other users. Sites like Craigslist could be used to look for local opportunities here if your skills match what the employer is looking for, even though this type of site isn't always reliable when finding freelance work .
